This handout explains what medicines, drugs, and other substances a mother should avoid while breastfeeding. It talks about alcohol, anesthesia, contraceptives (birth control), caffeine, cocaine, cold medicines, dental anesthetics, marijuana, methadone, pain medicines, tobacco, and dyes used in some ultrasound and X-ray tests.
